  • On March 19, 2013, Mrs. Chacon's and Mrs. Machan's fifth grade academic team competed in the 2013 Spring Knowledge Master Open (KMO). Knowledge Master itself is no mere trivia contest. Teams are required to answer 100 higher-level thinking questions that cover fourteen curriculum areas, such as History, Government, Recent Events, English, Math, Science and the Fine Arts. The students matched their knowledge against 185 other fifth grade teams from across the United States and around the world. The Long Branch ES team was the only Arlington elementary school to compete and ranked 3rd among all the Virginia teams while ranking 42nd overall in the competition. Congratulations, Team Long Branch!

Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes On April 26th at 9 a.m., Long Branch students will be holding a Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes, organized by the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes is an educational fundraising program that raises money to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. While raising money for JDRF to fund type 1 diabetes research, students learn about diabetes and the importance of making healthy choices. Several of our students have this disease. This will be our April Lion Pride Activity and put all of us in the Team Long Branch Spirit. For more information go to: www.JDRF.org
